Theater online – the show must go on!

The theater is also always worth a visit online.

The current state of emergency is hitting the cultural sector particularly hard, including actors and theatergoers. Nevertheless, although corona has brought almost everything to a standstill, the virus has not been able to slow down creativity – and the theater has gone digital overnight, so to speak.

The most important management rule is: “Problems are opportunities”; and so everyone suddenly remembers how important cohesion is and how interesting the entertainment on offer away from Netflix & Co. is in the immediate vicinity.

Local instead of global is now the motto and offers the opportunity to develop and visit new digital theater offerings.

Below we have put together some interesting online theater and entertainment offers in and around Hamburg for you:

Theater online – the Schmiftflyx

Speaking of Netflix – the Schmidt Theater on the Reeperbahn launched the online format Schmidtflyx in the style of the streaming giant and broadcasts an extremely entertaining mix of talk, comedy, music, quirky sections and spontaneous surprises live on Facebook every evening:

Theater online – The Ernst Deutsch Theater

The well-known Hamburg theater invites you to an online reading by actor Sven Walser (known from the cult series “Neues aus Büttenwarder”). Every day at 4:30 pm, he reads live in the theater from Thomas Mann’s magnum opus “The Magic Mountain”. The chapters already read are available in the theater’s media library:

Theater online – there’s more!

It’s not just theater that is now available online, the arte media library also has a special event for opera fans on demand: Giuseppe Verdi’s last stage work “Falstaff” staged by “shock and scandal director” Calixto Bieito at the Hamburg State Opera. Click here: https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/093509-000-A/falstaff-von-giuseppe-verdi/

You can also stream the current State Opera premiere of Bellini’s “Norma” online. But only audio – on the Latvian radio’s classical music channel: https://klasika.lsm.lv/lv/raksts/tieshraides/vincenco-bellini-opera-norma-hamburgas-valsts-opera.-titulloma-m.a127392/

Party online – not without it!

The Hamburg gay community used to enjoy a Bellini cocktail at the Wunderbar in the pre-corona era. Now everyone has to mix their own cocktail at home, but you can get that Wunderbar feeling online in your living room on Friday, March 27, from 10 pm. That’s when “The big Sunshine birthday livestream party” takes place. Especially cool: You can even make music requests in the live chat: https://www.twitch.tv/wunderbarhamburg

The Hamburg DJs are sending out a strong signal of life with a livestream, also from Friday, March 27. There will be a livestream from the Fundbureau Hamburg from 6 pm. The motto of the evening: Stay at home – we’re bringing the party to you! And that’s here: https://www.facebook.com/Fundbureau/

Besides theater, there’s much more online!

On Saturday, March 28, the Berlin concert hall will show its highlights in a livestream from 6 pm. The digital program will be announced weekly and will include video recordings, some of which have not yet been released. The program includes classical, jazz and Arabic music, lectures and workshops: https://boulezsaal.de/de/intermission

The Hamburg band “Wild Touch” led by Norwegian singer Ole Halvorsen will also be rocking out of the closed club “Bahnhof Pauli” on Saturday, March 28, from 9 pm. The concert will be charged at five euros via PayPal and will directly benefit the musicians and technicians involved, who currently have no other income. https://wildtouch.de/de/willkommen-bei-wild-touch-tube

OPOLUM: The interactive theater online!

The OPOLUM also makes a virtue out of necessity: an interactive audio book is used to tell the stories despite the far-reaching exit restrictions. In times of social distancing and contact bans, the Hamburg of the alternative past comes home to the audience. Under the motto “Hamburg has imagination”, anyone interested is invited to continue the story in the comments. Two episodes are available so far, more will follow at regular intervals on our Facebook page.

As you can see, the current crisis is also bringing a lot of new things with it. Theater online – who would have thought that a month ago? We wish you lots of fun within your own four walls. Stay at home, stay healthy!
