Escape room book: Our five best puzzle books for escape room fans

A new escape room book is published every now and then. This is because the escape room boom has also hit the book sector in full force – ideal for the summertime to read a book or two from this new “genre” while relaxing in the park, on a meadow, in the bath, by a gravel pond or on the seashore. We present our personal favorites here and are sure that you will find the perfect escape room book for you!

The five best escape room books

Escape room book #1: “Room of Fear” by Marc Meller

Seven out of eight participants believe they are taking part in a serious scientific study as part of an escape room game in order to gain new psychological insights – far from it! The protagonist Hannah knows from the outset that the whole thing is a trap, as she is the only one not to take part in the supposed game voluntarily, but has been drugged, kidnapped and locked up with the other participants.
The diabolical game master is named after the Roman god Janus, who in mythology symbolizes the apparent opposites of beginning/end, creation/destruction, life/death etc. and is therefore usually depicted as two-faced. The game master also has two faces and combines genius and madness. The exciting and highly sophisticated puzzles that need to be solved here will decide the life or death of the players.

A real “nail-biting thriller” that is hard to put down and not read through from the first to the 384th page in one night. Incidentally, a sequel to this highly acclaimed book has now been published, entitled “City of Wrath”, which is almost as exciting and full of twists and turns as the first part.

Part 1: “Room of Fear” is available for € 10.99.

Part 2: “City of Wrath” costs € 11.99.

Escape Room Book #2: “Escape Room: Murder Game” by Alexandra Maibach

Medical student Valli falls from a balcony during a party and dies. After her funeral, the message “My death was no accident” appears on her social media account. At a birthday party, six friends of the deceased meet up in an escape room, which is suddenly hijacked by a stranger. He forces the six young people to find out who is responsible for Valli’s death – it’s one of them! Everyone accuses everyone else and the escape room game turns into a psychological thriller.

This escape room book is a special bonus for fans of good detective stories – there are no bloody atrocities here. It is a classic “whodunit” in the style of the unrivaled Agatha Christie, i.e. it is all about the question of who is to blame. Each of the imprisoned had a motive for murder, because the dead woman also had her dark side and was obviously not particularly popular. A gripping, logically structured and twist-filled book that is highly recommended for anyone who likes to puzzle their way through crime fiction!

Escape Room: Murder Game” costs € 13.00 in paperback.

Escape room book #3: “Pocket Escape Book” by Nicolas Trenti

Imagine you were supposed to be shadowing a mafia godfather, but suddenly find yourself in his locked office and know you only have 60 minutes to escape the room, because then his killers will come and send you to the afterlife. An absolutely recommendable book for gamers, as the reader can and must find a way out of his predicament by combining various objects, just like in a real escape room.

A special gimmick of this escape room book: while reading and solving puzzles, you can display the results of your decisions via an online service on your smartphone or PC without having to laboriously scroll back and forth while the clock ticks in the background. This modern concept of an escape room book has obviously been so successful that there are now six (!!!) different parts available, suitable for both experienced gamers and children.

Part 1 is entitled “Labyrinth of Time” and is available for € 6.05!

Escape Room Book #4: Escape Room. Trapped in the snow by Eva Eich

This escape room book promises an even more unusual reading experience. In this novel, some of the pages are glued together so that after solving a task, you only find out whether you were right and what happens next by cutting open the pages. So this variant is actually an escape room game in book form. The reviews speak of an extremely successful combination of 20 extremely tricky puzzles, packed into a highly readable and exciting story in which a son tries to uncover his father’s murderer.

The high-quality hardcover edition of “Escape Room. Trapped in the snow” is available in stores for € 14.00.

Escape Room Book #5: “Sherlock Holmes – The Escape Book” by Ormond Sacker

As the hype surrounding escape rooms and escape room books continues, it was only logical that the world’s most famous detective would one day enter this exciting world of puzzles. Particularly original: you are Sherlock Holmes yourself in this escape room book – which takes some getting used to at first. But soon you are completely caught up in the story and try to escape from the labyrinth.

Sherlock Holmes – The Escape Book: Escape the London Waterworks!” is also particularly entertaining because wrong answers do not immediately lead to the end of the game – you make a mistake and go back, or simply take a new direction. A book or game that we recommend for advanced guessers and can be purchased for € 14.99!
