What is an escape room?
Not everyone always finds every escape room solution straight away – but what exactly is an escape room?
An escape game like our Escape Room Hamburg – also known as a room escape, escape game or exit game – is about solving a series of escape room puzzlesas a group in a certain amount of time in order to escape from the game rooms. Usually two to six people play for around 60 to 90 minutes.
It is important to activate all your senses and keep a cool head when solving the various tasks – because the solutions can be clearly in front of your eyes or cleverly hidden.

Preparation
The best preparation for visiting an escape room in real life is to play a game or two online. This allows you to familiarize yourself with the game from the comfort of your own living room couch and learn a lot about the structure, the process and the possible solutions you should consider.
Just get a few people together and try it out together!
Here you can find our online escape rooms.
The team
You have the best chance of successfully escaping from an escape room with a team of family members, acquaintances, friends or work colleagues. If the team knows each other well, communication is of course also easier. A balanced mix of creative minds and rational thinkers is ideal. The ideal group size is between a minimum of three and a maximum of six people.
You can find tips on which “ideal types” you should take on board to successfully master your next escape room in the shortest possible time in our blog on the perfect escape room team.
Brain training
In brain science, the principle of “use it or lose it” applies – our brain, like a muscle, is therefore dependent on constant training. The better it is trained, the more robust it is. Regular mental exercise is actually able to delay and slow down the natural decline of mental abilities.
This is why digital brain jogging offers are booming. But analog training options such as Sudoku, crossword puzzles, brain teasers and, of course, escape rooms are also ideal for this purpose.Search & find
When you start the game, examine the first room very carefully. Clues can be well hidden or completely obvious, but are sometimes only recognized as such after some pondering.
Search the room systematically for these clues, look in and under every drawer, under every table and armchair, behind every picture. Some objects can be opened. Pay attention to noises, possibly also to music etc.

Collect all the clues and objects in a central location and then go through them again together in peace after completing the meticulous examination of the room. Create a second pile in which all items that have already been used and tested are placed. Keys are almost always only used once, so it’s best to leave them in the respective lock – this is particularly helpful if several keys suddenly come into play!
Communication
If you find something, communicate this loudly and clearly to the other players so that everyone is always on the same level of knowledge. For example, “Hey guys! I’ve found a container here that’s secured with a three-digit combination lock! Keep an eye out for numbers!”
Think simply
Adults often have the problem of approaching things too rationally. Sometimes, however, childlike impulsiveness and creativity are the key to success. An escape room solution is often much more obvious than you think at first and afterwards you are annoyed to have wasted valuable time with complicated thought processes and calculations.
Better safe than sorry
If you are six players, for example, it is an advantage to divide into three groups of two and then search the room while constantly exchanging ideas and trying to correctly interpret clues and decipher puzzles together.
If you haven’t come up with anything in the groups of two, then go through the pile of clues together at your leisure – that’s usually when the brilliant idea comes!
Ask for hints
If you are at a complete loss, don’t be too proud to ask the operator who is monitoring the entire game for a useful hint.
After all, it’s just a game and you have nothing to gain by getting bogged down in a topic and interrupting the “flow” of the game for an unnecessarily long time.
Having fun is the most important thing
But even if such an escape room game really gets the synapses in a tizzy and some players like to take the fight against the clock all too seriously, the top priority is to keep the clock ticking:
Hey guys, chill your base – it’s just a game & all about fun!
Conclusion on solving an escape room
Hopefully you have been able to benefit a little from our tips for a successful escape room solution – of course, you can only find out whether this is really the case if you take on another fun and witty escape room challenge.
If you’ve never been to an escape room before, it’s high time you did – now that you know so much about them!
But be careful! Like all things that either make us fat or happy, escape room games also have a certain addictive potential. But this addiction, unlike others, is good for the gray matter!
