Fortunately, there are plenty of activities in Hamburg during Corona to pass the time. With the right insider tips, you can spend some enjoyable hours despite the global state of emergency – regardless of the extremely opaque pandemic and the confusing measures to combat it.
Hamburg is one of the most interesting major cities in Europe – and since the pandemic is severely restricting long-distance travel or making it extremely difficult with testing and quarantine regulations, many a travel enthusiast who is feeling the weight of their shoulders at home is thinking: “Why go far away when Hamburg is so close?” With a train ticket, a city trip to the Hanseatic city can often be achieved quickly.
However, even in Hamburg during Corona, it is often difficult to discover entertaining activities and find out what is currently allowed and what is not. This blog article should give you answers to all these questions.
We present special leisure activities here because we offer one ourselves. With its Escape Room Theater, OPOLUM is the future of escape rooms in Hamburg. Because we haven’t just strung together tricky puzzles and wrapped them up in an exciting story. We have made our escape rooms in the Speicherstadt as realistic as possible and taken them to a whole new level. By using actors who actively intervene in our stories, you completely forget that it’s just a game. Our size is also unique: we are the largest escape room in Hamburg.
Corona in Hamburg – what is allowed?
As the regulations on what is permitted where and with what protective measures can change almost daily, you should keep yourself informed on a daily basis. Here is a useful link that will keep you up to date on which activities are permitted in Hamburg in times of Corona and under which conditions.
What can you do in Hamburg during Corona? Discover our 7 insider tips:
1. enjoy the sunset and harbor lights at the Landungsbrücken.
Unfortunately, the harbor cruises that are extremely popular with visitors to Hamburg are being discontinued time and again, leaving you with little choice but to watch the hustle and bustle on the Elbe, the sunset and the colorful harbor lights from the jetties at St. Pauli. With the infrastructure available there, this should always be possible with a fish sandwich in your left hand and a cold beer in your right.
2nd city walk into the “unknown”
Walking strengthens the immune system and allows us to discover new facets of supposedly familiar areas again and again. It is worth exploring Hamburg on foot away from the well-known sights. The districts of Eilbek, Rothenburgsort or Dulsberg with their monuments, parks and green spaces offer the perfect backdrop for varied walks in the fresh air.
3. pedal boating on the Alster
Romance must not fall victim to corona either! If it is not possible to enjoy romantic hours on a boat trip on the Alster just when you want to because of corona, then you still have the somewhat more strenuous option.
Hire a pedal boat and enjoy the Alster in a different way! As these boats are usually suitable for four people, they also offer enough space for a family outing.
4th outdoor escape game
Unlike a classic escape game, here you are not trapped in a room, but out in the fresh air! The creative crew at OPOLUM has developed a unique puzzle walk that is possible without any coronavirus restrictions. It takes you and your friends on an exciting mission through the historic warehouse district at the old harbor to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. In addition to the mysterious puzzles that need to be solved, you will also learn lots of interesting facts about Hamburg. You can read more about this here.
5. explore street art in the city
There is also unique street art to admire on a “Corona walk” through Hamburg. The most famous works include the headless “Super Mario” in Emsbüttel, the zipper house in Sankt Georg and the gigantic mural “Sign of the Times” in Bergedorf, which even made it into the Guinness Book of Records in 1995 as the world’s tallest graffiti. You can find a selection of eleven exciting graffiti here.
6. eating fish at the Hamburg fish market
An absolute “must-see” when visiting Hamburg is of course the legendary fish market in Altona, which can look back on over 300 years of history. It is an activity for early risers. This market, which attracts around 70,000 visitors every week, takes place every Sunday from 5:00-9:30 a.m. directly on the Elbe!
7. enjoy nature in the “Planten un Blomen” park
The name “Planten un Blomen” is Low German and means – as is easy to guess – “plants and flowers”. The 47-hectare park in the center of Hamburg is worth seeing and is characterized by extensive lawns, idyllic streams and small lakes as well as unique themed gardens. In summer, this “green lung” of Hamburg invites you to play and do sports, sunbathe or simply stroll around and attracts visitors with free admission to public theater performances for children, water light concerts and music performances. In winter, ice skaters and curlers meet here.
Activities in Hamburg during Corona – our conclusion
As you can see, despite corona, Hamburg offers you a selection of varied activities that you can enjoy in the fresh air without wearing a mask. If the corona situation calms down again and indoor activities are possible again without any problems (we’ll keep our fingers crossed), you can also find ideas for to-dos in the Speicherstadt and throughout Hamburg in our blog.
